In the past month, I’ve discovered and/or purchased products from four Black-owned businesses. I stumbled upon all businesses through Instagram, either through a promoted ad, a customer reaction/satisfaction post, or a simple follow from the business itself. Regardless of how we were introduced – from the first introduction, I was hooked.
The products that these businesses housed were essential everyday products – products that I needed and would use daily! The companies were Black-owned and the OWNERS were BLACK women!
The businesses symbolized Black women seeing other Black women’s needs and/or desires and vowing to deliver the product that we all needed. They are the epitome of “we got you!”. I was so excited about discovering these products that I shared the information with just about anybody who would listen, including my followers on Twitter and Instagram.
Again, here I am sharing with anyone who would listen. Here is my list of my new found favorite Black-owned beauty & hygiene essentials.
1. Jade And Fox
Jade And Fox (I might have mentioned before on a previous post) is an online shop based in Atlanta, GA. There products SMELL so good! They are dedicated to making your body feel, look, and smell just as good. From body butters, body oils, shower gels to face masks, lotions and the list goes on.
The Honey Pot’s products are dedicated to providing menstrual and vaginal health to all women. They offer organic and plant-based feminine care to ALL women. There products include hemp and magnesium body balm, feminine wipes, feminist wash, tampons, and more. I 10/10 recommend. There products are sold online but also available in Target, Meijer, Walmart, and more. Be sure to check there store locator on the site to see where they are located in your area.
Mented Cosmetics was founded by two Black women on a mission to provide everyone the opportunity to be able to find herself in the world of beauty, meaning they offer makeup for all shades and skin tones. They sell an impressive collection of adult lip glosses, lip liner, eye shadow, make up brushes, foundation, setting powder, and more. They also have a set of nail polish.
4. The Lip Bar
In 2012, The Lip Bar was created with the intent to change the way people viewed and discussed beauty. The intent was to make everyone feel like the “standard” of beauty. They sale lip gloss, lip liner, mascara, foundation, brow gel, and more. The Lip Bar’s store is located in Detroit, MI but their products can also be found in Target.
